Description flo-l 2015-10-01 16:13:54 UTC
This is a shamless copy of a bug report in the gentoo bugtracker. There it's the same problem with an older Thinkpad. They resolved it by merging a patch into the kernel upstream. I guess this could be fixed in a similar fashion. I could do all this, but I don't know whom to contact.

Original bug report: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=542286
Link to fix: https://542286.bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=403246

Description of problem:

Using a Lenovo T550 and Pro Dock it is not possible to play audio using the docks' 3,5mm port. This maybe is the same problem which has been fixed for other Lenovo models:

- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/893611 (--> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/893611/comments/12 )

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
uname -a
Linux me-laptop 4.1.7-200.fc22.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Sep 14 20:19:24 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Plug notebook into dock
2. Plug speakers into docks' audio port

Actual Results:
Internal speakers are muted (which is correct) and there is no sound coming from external speakers, sometimes only indefinable random noise.

Expected Results:
Sound should be played using plugged in external speakers

Test patch for dock support

Try this one out and let me know if it works.

Comment 6 flo-l 2015-10-02 16:15:41 UTC
It works!!! awesome!! Thank you so much!! Also you response time was record-breaking!

A little nitpick though: I'm not at all experienced with this stuff so it took me some time to figure out how to integrate the patch in the fedora kernel and how to compile/install it. I followed the instructions here (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel#Building_a_Kernel_from_the_Fedora_source_tree) and here (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel#Prepare_Build_Files).

Maybe it would help beginners like me to include a link to these resources in the response with the patch! :)

Anyway thank you very much!

Comment 7 flo-l 2015-10-02 16:32:43 UTC
*your

Another question: Are you going to include the patch into the mainline kernel or should I do that? If I should do that, whom should I contact?

Comment 8 Laura Abbott 2015-10-02 17:54:10 UTC
I'll go ahead and submit it upstream. Assuming nobody objects upstream, I'll bring it into F22 as well.

Comment 9 flo-l 2015-10-03 09:09:46 UTC
