Description Marko Myllynen 2015-10-12 10:34:59 UTC
Description of problem:
Although pmatop(1) lists -h as a supported option, trying "pmatop -h localhost" just prints out the usage information and exits while "pmatop" works as expected.

NAME
pmatop - System and Process Monitor

SYNOPSIS
       Interactive usage:

       pmatop [-g|-m] [-L linelen] [-h host | -a archive] [interval [samples]]
...

Comment 1 Nathan Scott 2015-10-13 02:29:53 UTC
Thanks Marko. Turns out we are still shipping the old man page, from before the pcp-atop rework, which is what you're seeing there. The current man page is pcp-atop(1) and we are now command line compatible with upstream atop (--host is still available when invoked via pcp(1) - see 3rd para of pcp-atop man page).

Worth noting, too, that the proc metrics from which pcp-atop sources many of its values are not available by default over loopback/inet/ipv6 sockets (unix: domain socket is the default, which auto-authenticates for the local systems pmcd). You'll need to either run the remote pmdaproc with the -A option, or setup pmcd encryption/authentication to access remote proc metrics with --host.

cheers.
