Description Tomas Hoger 2015-10-14 12:27:42 UTC
Description of problem:

Flash Player version 11.2.202.535, released to address security issues described in the Adobe Security Bulletin APSB15-25:

https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb15-25.html

is no longer compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. The update introduces new dependency on GIO (libgio-2.0.so.0), which was only added to glib2 in version 2.15.0:

http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnome.announce/6106

The glib2 version in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 is 2.12.3 and does not include GIO.

Hence, this update is incompatible with Adobe published system requirements:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/tech-specs.html

which list:

32- and 64-bit: Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® (RHEL) 5.6 or later, openSUSE® 11.3 or later, or Ubuntu 10.04 or later

as supported platforms for Flash Player 11.2 on Linux.

Comment 1 Tomas Hoger 2015-10-26 08:39:10 UTC
Based on the information from Adobe, libgio dependency should be removed in future updates.

Comment 2 Tomas Hoger 2015-11-11 11:35:09 UTC
Versions 11.2.202.535 and 11.2.202.540 contained the problematic libgio dependency. It was removed again in version 11.2.202.548, which was pushed as update for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Supplementary via RHSA-2015:2024:
