I work heavily on public mailing lists and one of the things I often need to do is to reply to inline patch submissions with inline comments on the patch itself. Evolution makes this very difficult, however. When I click on the "Reply" or "Group Reply" buttons, the email to which I'm replying is quoted, but evolution has mangled it by line wrapping the patch. What I'd like is a configuration option that allows evolution to continue word wrapping in the "Normal" paragraph style, but to _not_ word wrap the previously quoted email. Is that possible? Is there a magic setting or dconf tweak for this that I'm not aware of?
Thanks for a bug report. There is no such (automated) option, the quoted part is always wrapped. However, I think of adding there an option, because some people like it, but some not [1]. What you can do is to select the quoted part and change the paragraph style to "Preformatted", which will stop wrapping. I filled this upstream at [2]. Please see [2] for any further updates. Ok, thanks. FWIW, changing to "Preformatted" may stop further wrapping but it's too late at that point. What that does is eliminate the added LFs, but it doesn't remove the quoting characters, so I end up with '>' sprinkled all over the patch I'm commenting on.
Hmm, maybe I misunderstood the request. If you do not want to use quoted replies, then do not use them. It's setup in Edit->Preferences->Composer Preferences->Replies and Forwards section.
No, I do want to use quoted replies, I just don't want evolution to line wrap them.
