RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Red Hat Product Errata RHBA-2016:0951 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE initscripts bug fix and enhancement update 2016-05-10 22:56:20 UTC

Description Neal Kim 2015-12-15 20:52:25 UTC
Description of problem:

Mangled config in /etc/sysconfig/init.

Looks like this:

 # Set to anything other than 'no' to allow hotkey interactive startup...
 PROMPT=yes
 # Set to 'yes' to allow probing for devices with swap signatures
# Set to anything other than 'no' to allow hotkey interactive startup...
PROMPT=no

Should look like this:

# Set to anything other than 'no' to allow hotkey interactive startup...
PROMPT=yes
# Set to 'yes' to allow probing for devices with swap signatures
AUTOSWAP=no

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

initscripts-9.03.49-1.el6.s390x.rpm

How reproducible:

Always.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Open /etc/sysconfig/init
2. Observe mangled config

Actual results:

Mangled config.

 # Set to anything other than 'no' to allow hotkey interactive startup...
 PROMPT=yes
 # Set to 'yes' to allow probing for devices with swap signatures
# Set to anything other than 'no' to allow hotkey interactive startup...
PROMPT=no

Expected results:

# Set to anything other than 'no' to allow hotkey interactive startup...
PROMPT=yes
# Set to 'yes' to allow probing for devices with swap signatures
AUTOSWAP=no

Additional info:

Interestingly enough the mangled config only appears in the s390x and PPC variants of RHEL 6. It looks like the config was mangled starting in RHEL 6.6.

Comment 1 Lukáš Nykrýn 2015-12-16 09:08:15 UTC
The shipped configuration files looks fine. Maybe something is changing them? Lets try anaconda.

Comment 2 David Cantrell 2015-12-17 16:39:46 UTC
anaconda does not modify /etc/sysconfig/init

Comment 3 Neal Kim 2015-12-18 17:43:52 UTC
Just FYI. If you extract the init script via rpm2cpio etc... you will see that the config is mangled right off the bat. Only the s390x and PPC variants as mentioned in the description.

Cheers,

Sorry my bad. This was broken by this commit https://git.fedorahosted.org/cgit/initscripts.git/commit/?id=7e7ab260

So yep, lets fix it.

Other archs have different source and are not affected by this change.
