RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Aneta Šteflová Petrová 2016-02-18 13:00:36 UTC
The Linux Domain Identity guide currently states that it is strongly recommended to install an IdM server with integrated DNS services. We should reword these recommendations to make it clear that the DNS server provided by IdM is not designed to be used as a general-purpose DNS server and only supports features related to IdM deployment and maintenance.
For basic usage within the IdM deployment, an IdM server with integrated DNS is recommended. However, if advanced DNS features beyond the scope of the IdM DNS server are required, users should consider installing an IdM server without DNS and using an external DNS server separate from the IdM server.

The following sections (and possibly others as well) should be updated:
* 1.2.4. Service Discovery: DNS
* 3.1. The ipa-server-install utility
* 3.2.4. Configuring DNS Services within the IdM Domain
* Chapter 17. Managing DNS (preface)

The changes referred in comment#0 have been modified.

Comment 3 Aneta Šteflová Petrová 2016-02-26 08:50:18 UTC
Summary of the update:

* The description in "1.2.4. Service Discovery: DNS" has been updated to reflect the info in comment#0.

* A reference to 1.2.4. has been added to the new "Integrated or External DNS Server" subsection of "2.4.2. Host Name and DNS Configuration".

* Existing references to 1.2.4. have been slightly reworded in the following sections: "3.1. The ipa-server-install utility", "3.2.4. Configuring DNS Services within the IdM Domain", and the preface of "Chapter 17. Managing DNS".

The update has been acked by the SME, so I'm moving this BZ to VERIFIED.
