Description of problem:
I'm not able to create container by CV, after last step it fails with 500:
Oops, we're sorry but something went wrong undefined method `full_messages' for []:Array.

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create new Docker compute resource (local or remote)
2. Create Product and add Docker repository to it. (e.g. 'busybox' from 'https://registry-1.docker.io/')
3. Sync that repo (In result we should have repo with some Docker Images and some Docker Tags inside)
4. Push 'New Container' button
5. Preliminary->Deploy on->Select Docker compute resource from step 1
6. Next->Image->Content View
7. Select Lifecycle Environment (e.g. 'Library')
8. Select Content View (e.g. 'Default Organization View')
9. Select Repository from step 2
10. Select Tag (whatever)
11. Next->Configuration
12. Input any Name (e.g. 'Container007')
13. Input any command (e.g. 'top')
14. Next->Environment
15. Do nothing here
16. Push Submit button

Actual results:
container not created, error page shown

Expected results:
container created successfully 

Additional info:
I would say that suspect here is that wizard step 2 (image) and step 4 (environment) dont store user input to session. Therefore not defined at submission... But this behavior is the same as in Satellite 6.1 where container creation by CV works.
Possibly another bz for not loading stored inputs into wizard.

The bug manifested/ and still manifests only when you access remote docker host. For local docker host accessed either using unix socket or tcp (http://localhost, http://hostname) it works.

Remote container creation using Docker hub works too.
Only remote container creation using Content View is/was broken:

When I tried to add an external Docker-based compute resource, clicking the Test Connection button failed with:

Connection refused - connect(2) for 10.8.0.99:2375 (Errno::ECONNREFUSED)

This issue is also appearing while deploying containers on an atomic host using content-view. Atomic host is configured as docker compute-resource and "test connection" is successful.

Please note that if I create container using Docker hub, it works fine.

Lukas,

After much debugging, I learned that for a remote docker instance, we recommend that the Satellite bootstrap rpm be installed.  That RPM includes the certificate that will enable docker to pull content from the Satellite.

Once I installed that on my docker server and restarted docker, I was able to successfully create a docker container from the Satellite using a content view (i.e. content from Satellite).

Can you confirm if you installed the bootstrap rpm on your remote docker instance?

e.g. 
[root@rhel7-docker ~]# rpm -qa|grep katello
katello-ca-consumer-sat-test-rhel7.example.com-1.0-1.noarch


That said, we should address the error handling to give a better message than the 'full_messages' error for conditions like this.

I had it installed but ... When I was switching between multiple satellites (rhel6/rhel7) I might forget to reinstall bootstrap rpm on container host :-/ 

Thanks for putting things right.
Then let this BZ be about better error messaging when you miss to install bootstrap rpm. (definitely not severe)

@Brad and @Mike: I got same issue as pointed in comment10 while creating container on atomic-host. And we can not install Satellite bootstrap rpm on Atomic host.


Any suggestions for atomic as remote docker instance ?

On Atomic run directly katello-rhsm-consumer script
(bootstrap rpm has it as %postinstall script)

# wget http://<SAT>/pub/katello-rhsm-consumer
# chmod +x katello-rhsm-consumer
# ./katello-rhsm-consumer
