Description of problem:
When ncurses uses a tab to position cursor, vte sometimes (when the tab is past all non-blank characters on the line) clears the space with background color. It's unexpected as the terminfo does not have xt (dest_tabs_magic_smso) property.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
vte291-0.40.3-1.fc22.x86_64
gnome-terminal-3.16.2-2.fc22.x86_64

How reproducible:
In LE editor with certain files and cursor position.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a file in LE
2. Position cursor on a tab stop near the line end
3. move cursor up/down

Actual results:
see the photos.

Expected results:
no glitches on the screen

Comment 3 Egmont Koblinger 2016-03-29 19:03:05 UTC
Reported upstream: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=764330

Comment 4 Egmont Koblinger 2016-03-29 20:12:12 UTC
There's a patch in the upstream bug, could you please test it with LE and let us know the results?

Download latest vte-0.44.x tarball; untar; apply patch; ./autogen.sh --without-pcre2; make; ./src/vte-2.91 => try within this test emulator

Comment 5 Egmont Koblinger 2016-03-30 19:52:14 UTC
Could you please provide *concrete* steps to reproduce the problem?

cat the file to terminal to see the problem

To reproduce the problem, output this file to the terminal. If the bug is present, you will see cyan coloured glitches (compare with xterm).

Comment 7 Egmont Koblinger 2016-03-31 07:28:23 UTC
Thanks; based on this I can confirm that the two upstream patches fix this problem.

(Alas, there's a new one triggered by LE in vte >= 0.44: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=754596#c15)
