Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Peter Vreman 2016-05-04 12:52:53 UTC
Document URL: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-satellite/6.2-beta/installation-guide/chapter-1-what-satellite-server-and-capsule-server-do

Section Number and Name: Chapter 1

Describe the issue:
The text on the capsule is asking for more questions than it solves. Using capsule is predicted 'solve all problems' with texts like 'Capsule Servers decrease the load on the central server, increase redundancy, and reduce bandwidth usage.'.

- What this means on the installation and the preparation the user is left alone without any clue.
- The redundancy is not incorrect word as it does not provide failover to multiple capsules from a client. Also the capsule does not provide the same functiionaly as the Satellite Server with, e.g. the UI and having more capsules.

Suggestions for improvement:
- Please describe deployment scenarios
- Please describe correct what a capsule is and how it interacts with the Sat6
-- What does it provide on 'redundancy'
-- What does it provide on isolation
-- What does it provide on load decrease on central server
-- What does it provide on low-bandwidth usage
- Alternative is to refer to a separate document that contains more details.

Assigning to Ali for review.

Comment 3 Allison Heslin 2016-05-26 17:56:15 UTC
Copying and pasting the comment from bz1332911 because I think it's better addressed as part of this bug:

...it is unclear what is 'Satellite Server' and 'Capsule Server'. Does 'Satellite Server' include an internal Capsule or not?
E.g. Do i need to run both 'foreman-installer --scenario=katello' and 'foreman-installer --scenario=capsule' on a single server?

Recommend is have have scenarios base on different deployment architectures:
- satellite-server-without-capsule
- satellite-server-with-capsule
- capsule-server

Comment 4 Andrew Dahms 2016-06-14 12:37:48 UTC
Re-assigning to Peter for review.

Peter is working on content for a planned Architecture Guide where this content would be a more natural fit.
