Description Alexander Smirnov 2016-05-13 22:01:56 UTC
Description of problem:

I have found a similar ticket 972442 but it was closed without resolution. I am currently running a testing platform to become a future production with the latest stable oVirt 3.6. I can not specify the time, but after some updates I can no longer create new VMs via UI with the name longer than 15 characters. This limitation was not there 2 months ago or so. Right now, if I create new VM via UI and typa a name longer than 15 characters, the box with the name became red so is "general" tab in the new vm dialog and the wizard can not proceed. It works fine, once the name is adjusted. I am not sure whether this is a re-introduced problem of UI or an API.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
As per UI: oVirt Engine Version: 3.6.2.6-1.el7.centos

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click NEW VM in the cluster
2. You may skip the details or set, what ever you need, does not matter. Pick a name for a VM, which is longer than 15 characters.
3. You will not be able to click ok.

Actual results:
Can not create new VMs with the name longer than 15 characters.

Expected results:
Create a VM with the name longer, than 15 characters (example the full domain name of the guest)

Additional info:
N/A at this time.

For the purpose of providing more information to this ticket, I started playing out different scenarios: There is a work around this bug. If you do NOT choose any particular OS in the wizard and will keep it set to "Other OS" - the wizard foes go through with the name longer than 15 characters. As soon as you make a choice - the limitation pops in.

see bug 1308778 for background of this behavior. Changed in 3.6.5

This bug has a wrong product which apparently can't be changed, looks like a bugzilla bug that I can't change it to any other ovirt-* product. This one is missing oVirt team and it is mandatory when switching.
Bronce, I'm not sure who's the owner, that field should be added.

We have a bug on this w/ the bugzilla team: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1323778

Trying to get them to prioritize it.
