Description of problem: After installation of packages kdelibs and chemical-mime-data warning messages are printer after installation of additional packages that update the MIME database. The warning messages appear, but they are not related to the installed package. kdelibs - /usr/share/mime/all provides 'all/allfiles' and 'all/all' Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): $ rpm -q chemical-mime-data kdelibs shared-mime-info chemical-mime-data-0.1.94-17.fc24.noarch kdelibs-4.14.20-1.fc24.x86_64 shared-mime-info-1.6-1.fc24.x86_64 How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. su -c 'dnf install -y kdelibs' 2. su -c 'update-mime-database /usr/share/mime/' # to manually trigger MIME database update 3. su -c 'dnf install -y chemical-mime-data' 4. su -c 'update-mime-database /usr/share/mime/' Actual results: after step 2: Unknown media type in type 'all/all' Unknown media type in type 'all/allfiles' after step 4 (lots of lines following the scheme): Unknown media type in type 'chemical/x-...' Expected results: No warning messages during installation. Maybe add exception to MIME checking utility, like in referenced FreeDesktop.org Bugzilla? Additional info: In FreeDesktop.org Bugzilla the issue with chemical MIME types was discussed some time ago: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335 They concluded to not add the MIME types to the official database.
chemical/ is not a known "registry" for IANA registered mime-types: http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/media-types.xhtml Best would be for those mime-types to be registered there first, then we can whitelist the "chemical" directory.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 24. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '24'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 24 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
'all/allfiles' and 'all/all' have been resolved in Fedora 26. 'chemical/x-...' is still around with chemical-mime-data-0.1.94-18.fc26.noarch
rebasing to avoid autoclose
