Description Alexander Chuzhoy 2016-06-03 15:01:12 UTC
rhel-osp-director: 9.0 ironic commands get stuck on import, deletion, etc.

Environment:
instack-undercloud-4.0.0-2.el7ost.noarch
python-ironicclient-1.2.0-1.el7ost.noarch
openstack-tripleo-heat-templates-liberty-2.0.0-8.el7ost.noarch
openstack-tripleo-heat-templates-2.0.0-8.el7ost.noarch
openstack-ironic-inspector-3.2.0-2.el7ost.noarch
openstack-ironic-conductor-5.1.0-1.el7ost.noarch
openstack-ironic-api-5.1.0-1.el7ost.noarch
openstack-ironic-common-5.1.0-1.el7ost.noarch
openstack-tripleo-heat-templates-kilo-2.0.0-8.el7ost.noarch
python-ironic-inspector-client-1.5.0-2.el7ost.noarch
python-ironic-lib-1.1.0-1.el7ost.noarch

Steps to reproduce:
1. Try to import nodes.

Result:
Only a subset of nodes gets imported.
Attempt to delete them gets stuck.
Attempt to change the provision mode of any node gets stuck.

Workaround: Restart the openstack-ironic-conductor service.

To clarify a bit the problem here. This occured because one node was stuck between changing the power state.

Hi Alexander,

Which command we are talking about here?

I've even commented on this BZ while we were talking about it on IRC, but the description is very light and I forgot :-/

Comment 6 Lucas Alvares Gomes 2016-06-21 14:32:50 UTC
Setting the priority to medium/medium because we do have an workaround for it

Comment 7 Jay Dobies 2016-06-21 16:20:07 UTC
Lucas - I might be missing it, but can you document what the workaround is? We'll get PM to review that workaround to see if doctext is sufficient for OSP9.

Comment 8 Alexander Chuzhoy 2016-06-22 17:35:45 UTC
Hi Lucas,
The import command was:
openstack baremetal import --json instackenv.json

Hi Jay,

It's in the description of the bug, we've restarted the ironic-conductor service because a node was stuck between a power state transition and then it worked.

Hi! It seems like there was a temporary situation, probably related to BMC issues. Hopefully, it's fixed now. If you wish to reopen this bug, please provide detailed information about your hardware and openstack-ironic-conductor logs.
