Description of problem: When I am working on my laptop (ThinkPad W541) with the power cord unplugged, if I don't have any input for about 15 seconds, the screen will automatically dim. When it does, gnome freezes for a few seconds. Then when I press a key, it un-dims, and freezes again for a few seconds. I can't figure out how to get it to stop dimming, and I don't know why it freezes. Additional info: These logs in the journal look relevant, but I am not sure what it is telling me that ACPI requires. It also freezes when plugged in, if I'm using the laptop screen and I manually change the brightness; but not if I'm using auxiliary screens.
I see the same behavior on my Lenovo W541, regardless of power source. I can reproduce this simply by opening the system settings gnome tool via the system menu (pull down menu on the far right of the top menu bar). The system GUI hard freezes for maybe 5-15 seconds. journalctl -f output captured before and after the freeze: Jul 01 08:54:07 localhost.localdomain kgiusti[3500]: Opening settings now <freezes here for ~6 seconds, then resumes. I believe this is a duplicate of BZ1302847 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1302847 I'll leave it up to Richard whether or not to mark it as such.
I agree it's a duplicate. I'll try out the solution there. I'll reopen (or Richard can) if it looks different somehow. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 1302847 ***
