Description Allon Mureinik 2016-06-08 09:22:19 UTC
Description of problem:
RHEV-M 4.0 removes the support for clusters and DCs older than 3.6. This should be clearly documented, and any specific references to such cluster/DC versions should be removed from the documentation.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
4.0

Assigning to Tahlia for review.

Comment 2 Tahlia Richardson 2016-08-03 03:49:35 UTC
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-virtualization/4.0-beta/paged/administration-guide/76-importing-existing-storage-domains says "You can only import existing data storage domains that were attached to data centers with a compatibility level of 3.5 or higher."
In 4.0, should this now be 3.6 (lowest compatibility version)? Or can you only import storage domains that were in 4.0 data centers?

Good question!
I'm not quite sure how to phrase this, but I'll try to supply the information and leave the translation from broken English to real English to the experts :-)

The main point of importing a data domain is taking a data domain from another RHV instance (whether it was cleanly detached or the RHV engine was lost due to a disaster) and bringing it into ("importing") another instance.
RHV 4.0 can import a domain that belonged to a DC of compatibility version 3.5 and above, regardless of the RH[E]V version that created it.

Awesome, thanks Allon! So the existing text is still technically correct; I might tweak it a little, though, to make it clear that it's still true in RHV 4.

Fix now published throughout guides at https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-virtualization?version=4.0/
