It seems that with recent Rawhide KDE live images, the anaconda icon that should appear on the desktop on boot sometimes does not. We're seeing this in openqa. For instance, on today's compose, the icon failed to appear in the i686 install test on openqa.stg, but did appear for the x86_64 and UEFI tests. I had cause to re-run the UEFI test a couple of times, and both times, on the first restart the icon did not appear, and I had to re-start the test again (it showed up the second time in both cases). I don't yet have any idea what's causing this, will try doing some manual tests later to see if we can pin it down any. rdieter suggests: <rdieter> adamw: can you tell if the anaconda link actually exists in /home/live/Desktop ? (I'm wondering if the .desktop file is missing or if kio_desktop is simply failing to show it's contents)

satellit: that's very unlikely to be the same issue, as every desktop does this differently.
this is still happening, fwiw, hit it with today's nightly.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 25 development cycle. Changing version to '25'.
Still happening, too.

rdieter: just to confirm, when the bug happens, yes, the liveinst.desktop file is present in /home/liveuser/Desktop . And this is still happening.
OK, got a test laptop going, it appears the default containment has reverted to "Desktop" rather than "Folder View", so that explains why nothing is displayed. I can look into fixing it now.
Looking closer, I recently thought to have fixed this in plasma-workspace-5.7.3-2, which should be getting included (it's in f25 tag). * Tue Aug 02 2016 Rex Dieter <rdieter> - 5.7.3-2 - adapt to upstream looknfeel/default-layout changes with .spec snippet: # default to folderview (instead of desktop) containment, see also # https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/distributions/2016-July/000133.html # and example, # https://github.com/notmart/artwork-lnf-netrunner-core/blob/master/usr/share/plasma/look-and-feel/org.kde.netrunner-core.desktop/contents/defaults Patch15: plasma-workspace-5.7.3-folderview_layout.patch and patch contents: diff -up plasma-workspace-5.7.3/lookandfeel/contents/defaults.orig plasma-workspace-5.7.3/lookandfeel/contents/defaults --- plasma-workspace-5.7.3/lookandfeel/contents/defaults.orig 2016-08-02 06:17:43.000000000 -0500 +++ plasma-workspace-5.7.3/lookandfeel/contents/defaults 2016-08-02 12:31:24.335614522 -0500 @@ -18,3 +18,6 @@ LayoutName=org.kde.breeze.desktop [kwinrc][DesktopSwitcher] LayoutName=org.kde.breeze.desktop + +[Desktop][org.kde.plasma.desktop] +Containment=org.kde.plasma.folder Ah, except look-and-feel/org.fedoraproject.fedora.twenty.four has it's own copy of contents/defaults, which it doesn't inherit from breeze (though maybe it should). :-/
Um, brain-fart, the inheritance is fine, I simply forgot to apply the patch properly. Yay, for easy-ish fixes.

unfortunately just missed the alpha compose we did today, but on the off-chance we have to slip and re-compose again, I think this is worth an FE.

Just missed Alpha, unfortunately. Should likely go stable long before Beta freeze.
