Similar problem has been detected: I was using a section in Wayland with Firefox, VirtualBox. The RAM and swap were being used. (Zram service was activated). For me it was the same using virtualbox, firefox, getting gnome-software message and afterwards I got only logged out. ( gnome 3.20.5-3.fc24.x86_64)
