Description Brendan Mchugh 2016-07-29 08:42:57 UTC
1. Proposed title of this feature request
Show project level metrics in the overview project setting page

3. What is the nature and description of the request?
Currently many of our customers are interested in viewing the project/namespace level metrics in the project setting page. They are not just satisfied with pod level metrics

4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
Project level metrics given them an overview about their complete usage. Pod level metrics dont offer this view. Especially when they have around 10 pods in a projects, they miss this overview

If you look at the views provided by Grafana which can be used to view charts from heapster typically on Kuberentes, then you can see quite a few options

Metrics at namespace(project) level (very interesting for customers)
Metrics at node level (interesting for a cluster admin

5. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)

As an example, for the following 3 individual pod level metrics
Pod1 Metrics
Memory : 100 of 400MiB : chart
CPU : 100 of 500 millicores : chart

Pod2 Metrics
Memory : 100 of 400MiB : chart
CPU : 100 of 500 millicores : chart

Pod3 Metrics
Memory : 100 of 400MiB : chart
CPU : 100 of 500 millicores : chart

It should be presented in the form of the metrics data for all pods combined into one chart

Project Metrics (3 Pods)
Memory : 300 of 1200MiB : chart
CPU : 300 of 1500 millicores : chart

6. For each functional requirement listed, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.

7. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat Bugzilla?
These seem broader in scope being at the deployment/project/cluster level, but overall goal is the same.

In 3.11, we are adding a new admin console. The admin console will show project-level metrics using prometheus. Current metrics include CPU usage across the namespace, memory usage across the namespace, and memory usage by pod (top 10). Note, however, that prometheus metrics are only available to users who can list namespaces. In the future, we would like to make the charts available for all users.

Note also that the 3.11 admin console shows the following charts for nodes:

* Memory usage
* CPU usage
* Number of pods
* Network in
* Network out
* Filesystem usage

With the introduction of OpenShift 4, Red Hat has delivered or roadmapped a substantial number of features based on feedback by our customers. Many of the enhancements encompass specific RFEs which have been requested, or deliver a comparable solution to a customer problem, rendering an RFE redundant.

This bz (RFE) has been identified as a feature request not yet planned or scheduled for an OpenShift release and is being closed.

If this feature is still an active request that needs to be tracked, Red Hat Support can assist in filing a request in the new JIRA RFE system, as well as provide you with updates as the RFE progress within our planning processes. Please open a new support case: https://access.redhat.com/support/cases/#/case/new

As the new Jira RFE system is not yet public, Red Hat Support can help answer your questions about your RFEs via the same support case system.
