Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because
the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.
Description of problem:
When I try to change the lock screen wallpaper and restart the system then it becomes the desktop background. If, select any other wallpaper for lock screen then it gets to desktop background automatically after restart. If kept the default lock screen wallpaper and then restart then it is fine.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-shell-3.14.4-37.el7.x86_64
How reproducible:
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Right click and select "Change Desktop Background"
2. Select the Lock Screen wallapaper
3. Log out and login back
Actual results:
By default the desktop background changes to the same as Lock screen wallpaper which is newly selected.
Expected results:
The lock screen wallpaper which is selected should remain only for the lockscreen but should not get set as Desktop Background wallpaper
Additional info:
Just an observation : It is happening with the RHEL wallpapers ( Meaning the wallpapers displaying "Red Hat Enterprise Linux" ) as of now.
Is there any update on the issue? I am planing to move over 1000 users to RHEL 7.2 (from 7.1) and because the lock screen is set to a default background it will change all user backgrounds. Not the greatest experience, especially when they try to set the background again and it will be overwritten on next reboot with the lock screen background.
Thanks
Oliver

The fix for this particular defect has not yet been integrated into a release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. It is currently being evaluated for inclusion in a future Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 synchronous update.
What is the meaning of ON_QA? Does it mean solved or pending? Thanks a lot.

ON_QA means that a fix for this issue is currently committed and built, and QE is evaluating the fix to ensure it works and doesn't cause any regressions.

Hi Michael, just want to confirm that after restart, the lock screen background isn't rendered as the desktop background. Thank you.

Correct, multiple restarts combined with multiple different lock screens. The lock screen wallpaper was never automatically used as the desktop wallpaper.
