RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Corey Marthaler 2016-08-15 19:22:32 UTC
Description of problem:
# RAID 6
[root@host-079 ~]# lvcreate --type raid6 -i 0 -n raid6A -L 500M raid_sanity
  --stripes may not be zero.
Run `lvcreate --help' for more information.

Shouldn't this case have the new "Adjusting stripes to the minimum" logic?
[root@host-079 ~]# lvcreate --type raid6 -i 2 -n raid6A -L 500M raid_sanity
  Using default stripesize 64.00 KiB.
Number of stripes must be at least 3 for raid6

This appears to have been adjusted, but doesn't have the actual "Adjusting stripes to the minimum" message?
[root@host-079 ~]# lvcreate --type raid6 -i 1 -n raid6A -L 500M raid_sanity
  Using default stripesize 64.00 KiB.
Rounding size 500.00 MiB (125 extents) up to stripe boundary size 504.00 MiB (126 extents).
  Logical volume "raid6A" created.

  --stripes may not be zero.

[root@host-079 ~]# lvcreate --type raid10 -i 1 -n raid10A -L 500M raid_sanity
  Using default stripesize 64.00 KiB.

Comment 1 Alasdair Kergon 2016-08-15 23:22:33 UTC
Well given the level of complexity here, I think the new approach does need to be stricter.

If you don't supply --stripes, then we should automatically use an appropriate default value.

If you do supply --stripes then we should either use the value you supplied or give an error if we cannot. We should no longer adjust it.

Comment 4 Corey Marthaler 2016-08-26 23:16:43 UTC
This appears fairly consistent now. The only issue being bug 1370658 (raid10). Marking verified in the latest rpms.
