I am going to mark this as for upcomingRelease.

The only thing we can really ask users to do in the case when the disk speed is inadequate for writes to keep up is to:

1) have the user run another Cassandra instance. This should spread out the writes across two different volume which should help to alleviate a single bottleneck

2) have an admin change the volume for commit logs. This is more of a manual affair, but they can configure the pod to write commit logs to a host volume or pod volume instead of writing them to the main data volume. The origin docs are available here https://github.com/openshift/origin-metrics/blob/master/docs/cassandra_advance.adoc#moving-the-commit-logs-to-another-volume and should eventually soon get into the 3.4 docs as well.
Comment 26 Peng Li 2016-11-01 04:28:35 EDT
The above solution has been verified on Origin, I'll change the status once it's test in OCP 3.4
Comment 28 Peng Li 2016-11-08 03:37:16 EST
Test 'move commit log to other volume(not cassandra PV)' has passed in OCP 3.4 with Metrics 3.4.0, can I set status to Verified now? Thanks.

Comment 29 Matt Wringe 2016-11-08 10:20:32 EST
If it should be moved to verified, please do so.
