This was in the log: Jan 18 09:16:43 lincoln5 gnome-shell[8531]: Native children wider or taller than 65535 pixels are not supported Jan 18 09:16:43 lincoln5 gnome-shell[8531]: The program 'gnome-shell' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 43362 error_code 11 request_code 12 (core protocol) minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '25'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

We have reports of this up to at least F27 timeframe, so let's bump the release up to 27.
Seems like this can be triggered by several different Steam games, from all the comments and dupes, not just Kerbal.

I have a crashing bug in gnome-shell, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1279291 (#1279291) that looks very similar to this one, because it contains the BadAlloc... message, even though it does not have the message about "Native children wider...". This one can be triggered using only firefox on a monitor of 1440x900 or higher. Could you please have a look?
I doubt it's the same bug. BadAlloc is a fairly generic error that is used in X implementations for just about anything that could be described as, well, a 'bad allocation'. Just seeing that message only gives you a vague clue as to what might be wrong. There are probably tens of thousands (at least) of people running GNOME and using Firefox on monitors at 1440x900 or higher, so I would strongly suspect that's not a sufficient description of your case, it likely also involves another factor, for instance your graphics card. But it'd be best to follow it up in the original report.
Created attachment 1494574 [details] GtkTreeView + long directory listing Just hit (a parent of?) this when using a GtkTreeView listing the content of a big directory in a program I'm writing. This is only reproducible at a resolution of 3840x2160. At 1080p the problem is not reproducible.
