Description Kadir 2016-11-24 19:36:45 UTC
Description of problem:

When the system is under load (by loading applications and/or desktop animations), the mouse movements stutter and become laggy.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Easily reproducible by launching applications and doing basic desktop stuff

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start an application like firefox or thunderbird
2.the mouse cursor starts to stutter
3.

Actual results:

Stuttering/lagging mouse cursor

Expected results:

Smooth mouse tracking

Additional info:

This does not happen in Xorg, just on Wayland. This bug is also discussed upstream (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=745032) and on the known issues with Wayland Fedora page (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_debug_Wayland_problems#Mouse_pointer_is_lagging.2Fstuttering_under_load).

Now that Wayland is standard on Fedora 25, this needs to be resolved imo, the mouse movements become unpredictable, this is important for desktop users.

I run Fedora 25 on an Intel i5 (laptop Latitude e6320) and an Intel i3 (Desktop), both suffer from the mouse stutter under load.

I use Fedora 26 on a laptop. Normally, the lagging/stuttering is very low. However, today I connected a HiDPI display to the laptop, and the stuttering/lagging makes the system close to unworkable.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 18:31:18 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2017-12-12 10:20:53 UTC
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

I'm getting this issue on Fedora 26. I recently upgraded from Fedora 25 and had not observed the problem there, but suddenly under 26 I get mouse cursor lag that's very noticeable. It's bad enough that it's sometimes difficult to target the intended point on the screen because I keep circling around it due to the slow update. The cursor also seems to jump across parts of the screen at times.

The hardware is a Thinkpad E420 laptop with Intel integrated graphics. I'm running the i3 window manager so resource usage is minimal. Even with no applications running other than Redshift I've observed the lag.

Comment 5 Jan Vlug 2018-01-29 12:24:45 UTC
I notice that this bug is closed, but I confirm that the issue is still there in Fedora 27. Could someone please re-open this bug?
