Description Nuno Dias 2016-11-26 10:33:40 UTC
Description of problem:
Every time I have evince running the media shortcuts I defined stop working.
I don't know if this a problem in evince or gnome-shell, but because this only happens when evince is running I assign this to evince.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
evince-3.22.1-1.fc25.x86_64
gnome-shell-3.22.1-2.fc25.x86_64

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open audacious or other media player
2. Define some shortcuts to play/pause/stop
3. Start playing something and check is the sgortcuts are working
4. Start evince and try to use the shortcuts

Actual results:

Expected results:

Seems odd to me that evince would have anything to do with this.

Can you give step by step for "define some shortcuts to play/pause/stop" ?

Comment 2 Nuno Dias 2016-12-06 15:56:51 UTC
1. Go to "gnome-control-center" -> Keyboard
2. Search Sound and Media
3. I've defined this shortcuts

Next Track -> Scroll lock
Play (or play/pause) -> Pause

Then open a media player, audacious for example, load at least 2 musics, start play a music by pressing "Pause key", go to the next music by pressing "Scroll lock key"

Ok, this works fine, but if I run evince this keys stops to work.

Comment 3 Caolan McNamara 2016-12-09 08:56:26 UTC
do you run evince "full screen" or "presentation" mode or just normal "continuous" mode. There are old bug reports (claiming its fixed) about evince capturing the media keys and that sounds like this problem, but I can't quite reproduce the problem on f25

Comment 4 Nuno Dias 2016-12-09 10:28:23 UTC
Normal mode, I don't know if this the same bug of that old bug, but it seems very similar, nevertheless I can reproduce the problem every time I run evince, and only evince has this problem.

Comment 5 Caolan McNamara 2016-12-09 14:01:47 UTC
interestingly there are some abrt crashers where the crash is around ev_media_player_keys_grab_keys, maybe the two things are related

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 19:49:00 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 7 Nuno Dias 2017-11-17 10:30:34 UTC
This bug is still in Fedora 26, please don't close this ticket.

Comment 8 Łukasz Faber 2017-11-18 13:50:33 UTC
I have the same problem in Fedora 27. I wondered why my (default) multimedia keys sometimes do not work and, after seeing this bug, I can confirm, that running Evince in a windowed mode disables multimedia keys.

Events on DBUS when Evince is running:
signal time=1511013469.574200 sender=:1.60 -> destination=:1.1045 serial=311 path=/org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/MediaKeys; interface=org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.MediaKeys; member=MediaPlayerKeyPressed

   string "Evince"
   string "Play"

And when it is not:
method call time=1511013477.531220 sender=:1.60 -> destination=:1.546 serial=314 path=/org/mpris/MediaPlayer2; interface=org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Player; member=PlayPause

Fedora 27 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2018-11-30. Fedora 27 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
