Description Alexander Koksharov 2016-12-15 11:53:05 UTC
Description of problem:

With all openshift3/ose-keepalived-ipfailover images after at least 3.2.1.15 keepalived is not not able to negotiate on MASTER/BACKUP state. it is constantly starting VRRP negotiations and just switching from one state to another if there are multiple VIPs defined.

The reason for that seems to be vrrp_sync_group configuration. Man page for keepalived.conf says that VIP instances within a group are failover *together*.
However, distribution of priorities is such that one VIP instance wants to be master on one node whereas another wants to become master on another node.

Here is an explicit note of above:

ipfailover keepalived split brain

All of the VIPs try to end up on the same node. The process doesn't
settle on a node. This fix eliminates the vrrp_sync_group. The result
is each VIP settles on a node and not all appear on the same node.

There is some general coding style cleanup included as well.
The check and notify scripts are in the vrrp_instance for each VIP.

Note: This may look like a script generating a script. It is not. The
script generates the keepalived.conf config file which is input by
keepalived when it starts.
