Created attachment 1234493 [details] 1-opengl-3.1.mkv Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.99.917-26.20160929.fc25.x86_64 How reproducible: Always, on any version of the driver, any desktop environment and any distribution Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have a Zotac CI323 or probably just an N3150 Intel CPU. 2. Start Plasma or Gnome on Ubuntu or Fedora with the compositor enabled. 3. Move the cursor and drag windows. Actual results: When moving the cursor, there is a trail of cursor forming. When dragging windows, there is a square forming around the cursor. The cursor is consistently flickering. Expected results: No artefacts Description of problem: What I have tried: Running Plasma on fedora with the compositor enabled, opengl 3.1 or 2 selected, using the Intel driver and DRI3. When moving the cursor, there is a trail of cursor forming. When dragging windows, there is a square forming around the cursor. The cursor is consistently flickering. See attachment: 1-journalctl_--this-boot.txt 1-Xorg.0.log 1-opengl-3.1.mkv Running Plasma on fedora with the compositor enabled, xrender selected, using the Intel driver and DRI3. Everything works ok in this setup, but it less fluid. See attachment: 1-journalctl_--this-boot.txt 1-Xorg.0.log 1-xrender.mkv Running Plasma on fedora with the compositor disabled, opengl 3.1 or 2 selected, using the Intel driver and DRI3. Everything works ok in this setup. See attachment: 1-journalctl_--this-boot.txt 1-Xorg.0.log 1-compositor_disabled.mkv Running Plasma on fedora with the compositor enabled, opengl 3.1 or 2 selected, using the Intel driver and DRI2. Plasma only seem to update every 2 seconds in this setup, but everything else works ok. See attachment: 2-20-intel.conf 2-journalctl_--this-boot.txt 2-Xorg.0.log 2-compositor_enabled.mkv Running Plasma on fedora with the compositor disabled, opengl 3.1 or 2 selected, using the Intel driver and DRI2. Everything works ok in this setup. See attachment: 2-20-intel.conf 2-journalctl_--this-boot.txt 2-Xorg.0.log 2-compositor_disabled.mkv Running Plasma on fedora with the compositor enabled, opengl 3.1 or 2 selected, using the Intel driver and UXA AccelMethod. For some reason everything in this setup works great except I can't seem to be able to get the cursor to touch the left side of the screen. But when I record it, it does touch it. There is also no cursor flickering. See attachment: 3-20-intel.conf 3-journalctl_this-boot.txt 3-Xorg.0.log 3-what_I_see_(uxa).mkv 3-what_SimpleScreenRecorder_recorded_(uxa).mkv Running Fedora Workstation live cd Same issues Running KDE Neon live cd Same issues Fiddling with multiple i915 kernel module settings (added directly to the kernel paramenters in "Grub Customizer" (yes I checked if they were enabled with the command "systool -m i915 -av")) Module settings I played with, with no discernible effect: i915.semaphores i915.enable_rc6 i915.enable_fbc i915.enable_dc i915.modeset i915.enable_psr i915.preliminary_hw_support All of the tests show cursor flickering, even if the recordings don't show it, except the UXA AccelMethod.

I have discovered that I can get a different behaviour if I change which monitor output I use. -If I use the analog output + HDMI or just HDMI, I get the bug on all screens. -If I use only the the analog output, I get no bugs at all. Everything works perfect. -If I use only the DisplayPort, the screen turns black after grub and I get these errors in journalctl: Jan 29 19:15:24 localhost kernel: [drm:chv_set_memory_dvfs [i915]] *ERROR* timed out waiting for Punit DDR DVFS request Jan 29 19:15:24 localhost kernel: [drm:chv_set_memory_dvfs [i915]] *ERROR* timed out waiting for Punit DDR DVFS request See attachment: 4-journalctl_--this-boot.txt -If I use the DisplayPort and the analog output, the DisplayPort screen turns black after grub, the analog one works with no bug and I get this in journalctl: Jan 29 19:34:38 localhost kernel: [drm] failed to retrieve link info, disabling eDP Jan 29 19:34:38 localhost kernel: ACPI: Video Device [GFX0] (multi-head: yes rom: no post: no) Jan 29 19:34:38 localhost kernel: acpi device:09: registered as cooling_device5 Jan 29 19:34:38 localhost kernel: input: Video Bus as /devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0A08:00/LNXVIDEO:00/input/input6 Jan 29 19:34:38 localhost kernel: [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20160919 for 0000:00:02.0 on minor 0 Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: fbcon: inteldrmfb (fb0) is primary device Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: ------------[ cut here ]------------ Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 6 at drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c:1783 vlv_wait_port_ready+0xa0/0xe0 [i915] Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: timed out waiting for port B ready: got 0xf, expected 0x0 Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: Modules linked in: i915 hid_logitech_hidpp crct10dif_pclmul crc32_pclmul crc32c_intel ghash_clmulni_intel 8021q i2c_algo_bit garp drm_kms_helper stp llc mrp serio_raw r8169 drm mii hid_logitech_dj fjes sdhci_acpi video sdhci mmc_core i2c_hid uas usb_storage sunrpc scsi_transport_iscsi Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: CPU: 0 PID: 6 Comm: kworker/u8:0 Not tainted 4.9.5-200.fc25.x86_64 #1 Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: Hardware name: ZOTAC ZBOX-CI323NANO/ZBOX-CI323NANO, BIOS B301P019 10/12/2016 Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: Workqueue: events_unbound async_run_entry_fn Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: ffffac0940c87690 ffffffffa33f40bd ffffac0940c876e0 0000000000000000 Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: ffffac0940c876d0 ffffffffa30a202b 000006f7fffb8664 ffff8a86ed740000 Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: 0000000000186014 0000000000000000 ffff8a86ed532000 000000000000000f Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: Call Trace: Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffa33f40bd>] dump_stack+0x63/0x86 Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffa30a202b>] __warn+0xcb/0xf0 Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffa30a20af>] warn_slowpath_fmt+0x5f/0x80 Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffc034c220>] vlv_wait_port_ready+0xa0/0xe0 [i915] Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffc03856d6>] chv_hdmi_pre_enable+0x86/0xa0 [i915] Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffc03410a8>] intel_encoders_pre_enable.isra.38+0x68/0x80 [i915] Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffc03529e1>] valleyview_crtc_enable+0xf1/0x200 [i915] Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffc034f490>] intel_update_crtc+0x50/0xe0 [i915] Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffc034f586>] intel_update_crtcs+0x66/0x80 [i915] Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffc034fc8e>] intel_atomic_commit_tail+0x33e/0xff0 [i915] Jan 29 19:35:10 localhost kernel: [<ffffffffa30e7762>] ? This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '25'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
