I have the same issue. It doesn't crash all the time but it happens quite often. I am running Fedora 25 with kernel "4.9.13-200.fc25.x86_64". The error messages that I get are pretty much the same like mentioned in the report. To me it seems like this is an issue in libc.
PS: The same thing happens when using Super+Tab, just like Alt+Tab.
Same issue for me on Fedora 25, GNOME Shell 3.22.3. Same journalctl output. Anyone looking into this or have a workaround?
Same here. GNOME freezes and gnome-shell maxes out one cpu core. I can't seem to kill or restart GNOME or GDM either. I can only reboot. My error messages are similar (error 4 in libc-2.24.so) but so far those error messages mentioned gnome-software rather than gnome-shell.
I just ran dnf update which updated gnome-software to the latest verions, 3.22.6-1.fc25, and I'm still getting the crash/freeze. This time it froze immediately upon running `gnome-software` from the command line. But it doesn't always freeze. After a reboot I was able to run `gnome-software` without an immediate freeze.
This continues to happen but today when it happened I had no segfault messages like before. I'm starting to wonder if this is maybe a completely separate issue from what some of the other people in this bug report are reporting. So I've creating a new bug report: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1432699
Same problem here. Gnome-shell crashes often (not always) when using alt-tab. From journalctl in the last crash I get a similar output than the one in the description of the bug: May 15 12:15:15 localhost.localdomain audit[19870]: ANOM_ABEND auid=1000 uid=1000 gid=1000 ses=4 subj=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 pid=19870 comm="gnome-shell" exe="/usr/bin/gnome-shell" sig=11 May 15 12:15:15 localhost.localdomain kernel: gnome-shell[19870]: segfault at 8 ip 00007fd3a8f02acc sp 00007fffe2589708 error 4 in libc-2.24.so[7fd3a8e72000+1bd000] May 15 12:15:15 localhost.localdomain abrt-hook-ccpp[21278]: Process 19870 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 killed by SIGSEGV - dumping core
In addition to my previous comment, I am using fedora 25 (4.10.14-200.fc25.x86_64) and GNOME Shell 3.22.3.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '25'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
For me, bug appeared when Tweaks/Appearance/Enable animations set to "off". When it set to "on", Alt+Tab works fine.
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
