Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Andrea Perotti 2017-02-13 14:45:25 UTC
1. Proposed title of this feature request
pulp-admin tasks list to monitor all the capsule at the same time

3. What is the nature and description of the request?
pulp-admin tasks list is able to check one capsule queue at time.
We need pulp-admin to check all of the capsules queue in our envirionment, that has isolated capsules.

4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
To avoid monitoring several different queue

5. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)
add more hosts in pulp-admin.conf, having one additional column with the capsule handling the task

6. For each functional requirement listed in question 5, specify how Red Hat
and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.
1) configure pulp-admin to handle multiple capsules
2) run one instance of pulp-admin and check all the capsules status in one screen

8. Does the customer have any specific timeline dependencies?
As pulp is having a lot of problem, this is a priority on our side.
6.2.x would be good.

9. Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?
no

Since pulp-admin is not supposed to be a supported part of the product, I think the right place to have this would be as a graphical interface in Katello. It would be a lot easier to display in a web GUI anyway.

Aside from that, pulp-admin would need to know how to be concurrently authenticated to multiple Pulp deployments, which is beyond the scope of anything pulp-admin has done so far.

Keep in mind that from Pulp's perspective, a Capsule has no special relationship with the Satellite. It's just another remote data source. Katello is the orchestrator that facilitates the parent-child relationship and workflows.

I appreciate what you're trying to accomplish, which I think is to get a unified view of what all of the managed Pulp deployments are doing. I just don't think pulp-admin is the right tool for the job.

Do you agree? Can we convert this to a Katello RFE?

Comment 3 Andrea Perotti 2017-02-13 21:00:48 UTC
Hi Michael, thanks for the clarification of the different roles of the different components and for understanding the final goal of this RFE.

I agree that katello should be the place, convert it into the right product component.

thanks

I would like to see this RFE provide a table under Infrastructure Capsule Tasks
A table would be rendered such that each column is a Capsule and the rows represent tasks organized by function (Content, ReX, Puppet, etc)

Thank you for your interest in Satellite 6. We have evaluated this request, and while we recognize that it is a valid request, we do not expect this to be implemented in the product in the foreseeable future. This is due to other priorities for the product, and not a reflection on the request itself. We are therefore closing this out as WONTFIX. If you have any concerns about this, please do not reopen. Instead, feel free to contact Rich Jerrido or Bryan Kearney. Thank you.
