The most recent build of fail2ban for EPEL 6, 0.9.6-1.el6, has references to systemd in the paths-fedora.conf file. As a result, several jails refuse to work correctly. The relevant lines are as follows: # These services will log to the journal via syslog, so use the journal by # default. syslog_backend = systemd sshd_backend = systemd dropbear_backend = systemd proftpd_backend = systemd pureftpd_backend = systemd wuftpd_backend = systemd postfix_backend = systemd dovecot_backend = systemd
