Description Lukas Ruzicka 2017-02-28 08:15:50 UTC
Description of problem:
A new feature will arrive in the Ocata release of RHOSP which should enable tracing and collecting system messages to allow for better system analysis that would help administrators to control the performance issues of their systems.

See: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=913619

Expected results:
When I asked what would be needed to document this, I received the following comment from Lee Yarwood:

A KCS article might be appropriate on the customer portal as this
really only something users would use to debug broken environments.

Comment 12 Derek 2017-04-12 13:30:27 UTC
Lukas, the RFE that goes with those shows OSP 12 release. Should this be an OSP 12 task also?

Example `nova --profile $HMAC_KEY boot --image cirros --flavor 1 test` HTML profile

I've attached an example HTML profile to the bug however I did hit some issues along the way :

- The template.html file is missing from python-osprofiler.
- The services default to using the messaging:// connection-string.
- This isn't usable by the osprofiler client as it doesn't allow you to provide a configuration file.
- The default client connection-string of ceilometer:// didn't work out of the box for me with packstack.

I'll get bugs open for these issues tomorrow but we might want to include caveats in the article for now.

Comment 17 Red Hat Bugzilla Rules Engine 2017-08-08 07:00:15 UTC
This bugzilla has been removed from the release since it has not been Triaged, and needs to be reviewed for targeting another release.

Comment 19 Lucy Bopf 2018-04-24 02:50:15 UTC
Moving back to 'NEW' and the default assignee for rescoping, since the work on which this BZ depends appears to be untargeted.

Comment 20 Mikey Ariel 2018-07-06 14:53:29 UTC
Scoping this BZ for the doc team: Hi Lukas, it seems from your latest updates that the KCS article is live and was reviewed by Charelle: https://access.redhat.com/articles/2963391

Can we close this bug or is there additional work that is needed from the doc team on this?

Comment 21 Lukas Ruzicka 2018-07-09 10:31:35 UTC
Hey Mikey,
the article is life and approved by Charelle. I only left it open, because I was waiting for Lee to confirm that the procedure worked in his system.
You can close this bug, if you think that the procedure is working. It was for me, when I was working on that article.

Lukas
