Description Ed Voncken 2004-12-16 09:04:53 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5)
Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

Description of problem:
I logged on to the new RHN website; attempting to subscribe approx. 40
of our RHEL3 systems to the Beta channel (for the new bugfixed kernel).

I noticed that Channels => [ select for example Red Hat Enterprise
Linux WS (v. 3 for x86) Beta ] => Target Systems does not show
tickboxes next to the hostnames. This makes selecting systems quite
impossible.

Furthermore, the "Select All" button at the bottom does not seem to
work either.

I used both Firefox 1.0 and IE 6 on XP SP2 to verify this.

According to RedHat Support, I need to click my way through the 40
individual systems (see 'additional info')

As the logic for system selection seems mostly in place, I would like
to be able to mass-subscribe the selected Target Systems to the
channel I selected.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
The RHN website...

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log on to RHN website
2. Go to Channels => (e.g. RHEL 3 WS Beta) => Target Systems
3. You will notice a "Select All" button at the bottom of the list
4. This button conveys to the user that "Select All" is possible
5. Notice that there are no checkboxes next to individual target
systems...
6. Press "Select All", expecting "All" systems to become "Selected"

Actual Results: Nothing useful happens...
However, user becomes massively confused ;)

Expected Results: "All" systems to become "Selected", so I can
subscribe my approx. 40 clients to the Beta channel with few mouse clicks.

The fact that there is a "Select All" button is, to say the least,
confusing; it conveys the notion that there is a way to "Select All"
systems, and subscribe them to the channel.

Non-preferred solution: remove the "Select All" button and leftmost
column from the view if it serves no purpose.

Preferred solution: implement the select functionality, so I can
select the target systems from the Target Systems page as expected -
subscribing 40 boxes to a channel by tediously clicking through 40
Systems like so:

1. Systems Overview
2. Click on system name (wait for the page to load...)
3. Click on Alter Channel Subscriptions (wait for the page to load...)
4. Place checkmark next to Beta channel
5. Click "Change Subscriptions"

... 40 times!

This way, the RHN user can either use a System or a Channel as the
starting point managing channel subscriptions.
