RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description jcastran 2017-03-11 01:23:15 UTC
1. Proposed title of this feature request
[RFE][BACKPORT] Log capture script from upstream anaconda

2. Who is the customer behind the request?
Account: Fermilab - Business Systems 646274

TAM customer: no

SRM customer: no

Strategic: no

3. What is the nature and description of the request?
https://github.com/rhinstaller/anaconda/commit/475e73bc2d96afb236e2b92d476556cbe2ff896d

This change will have Anaconda automatically generate more logs. Currently we have 2 KCS which we use. 1 for normal anaconda logs, and 1 for the additional storage information. With this change, the process will be much simpler for customers to collect logs and we will be able to get the information we need (or don't need) every time.

4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
Ease of log collection. Simplifying of troubleshooting installation issues. This will not only help Red Hat Customers, but also Engineers collecting logs and data

5. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)
https://github.com/rhinstaller/anaconda/commit/475e73bc2d96afb236e2b92d476556cbe2ff896d

6. For each functional requirement listed, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.

Once implemented we can verify the additional system files are collected as intended

7. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat Bugzilla?
No but it is already upstream https://github.com/rhinstaller/anaconda/commit/475e73bc2d96afb236e2b92d476556cbe2ff896d

8. Does the customer have any specific timeline dependencies and which release would they like to target (i.e. RHEL5, RHEL6)?

9. Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?

No

10. List any affected packages or components.
Anaconda and Red Hat Support Cases

11. Would the customer be able to assist in testing this functionality if implemented?
I would gladly test this

Comment 5 Marek Hruscak 2017-05-02 16:07:37 UTC
The bash script is present and work as expected.
By executing "bash /usr/libexec/anaconda/log-capture" the log files will be generated in /tmp folder and bzip archive is created.
