Description Bertran Lopez 2017-03-17 12:31:36 UTC
Description of problem: When pasting larger amounts of formatted text (about 18 pages with tables and images) from a web page such as Wikipedia to LibreOffice (Writer), the operation fails with the message: 'Requested clipboard format is not available'.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 5.2.6.2-2.fc25

How reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to a web page such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day using a browser like Firefox.

2. Select and copy all text.

3. Paste selected text into LibreOffice Writer.

Actual results: After a pause, the error message 'Requested clipboard format is not available' is displayed.

Expected results: The formatted text should be pasted with formatting into the document.

Additional info:

Pasting the same formatted text in smaller chunks works perfectly. However, this is tedious and should not be necessary (unless the amount of text to be copied is ridiculously long). Microsoft Office, for example, is able to handle the above paste operation in one go.

Pasting large amounts of text in unformatted form works without any problems but this is not practical, as tables and images are lost.

I suspect that this has to do with the 'paste buffer' for processing formatted text in LibreOffice being too small.

Would appreciate if this issue could be looked into. Thanks!

This is definitely reproducible, which is very good

Comment 2 Caolan McNamara 2017-03-19 21:33:14 UTC
GDK_BACKEND=x11 ./swriter and it works, under default wayland there's a "gdkselection-wayland.c:266 error reading selection buffer: Operation was cancelled" warning

Comment 3 Bertran Lopez 2017-03-20 14:18:37 UTC
Thanks for looking into this. Using GDK_BACKEND=x11 solves the problem for me. Now I am able to paste really large amounts of formatted text.

Some additional info I've noticed: Using the GDK_BACKEND=x11 parameter as you suggested solves another issue of being unable to paste images from Firefox to LibreOffice. Maybe it's caused by the same bug so I won't report it separately.

Cheers and have a good week.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 19:38:58 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2017-12-12 10:43:31 UTC
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
