Description of problem: ---------------------- I have installed Linux Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 on a Dell Optiplex GX280 with a SATA/150 Maxtor Hard drive 6Y080MO but I have some boot problems. I couldn't start the installation because of two "PCI-IDE: unknown IDE Controller" error messages. Then in the BIOS I changed the "SATA Operation" configuration from "Normal" (default) to "Combination": this causes one of two error messages to disappear and I could install Red Hat. Now Linux is installed but I can boot only in single user mode, otherwise during the boot I have a "PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device fa, VID=8086, DID=2651" error message. In the /etc/sysconfig/hwconf I have several "unknown" entries and on of them has VID=8086 and DID=2651. Is there any patch I can install? I only can use RHAS 2.1: I need to install on it an application that is only certificated with RHAS 2.1 Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): ------------------------------------------------------------- kernel-2.4.9-e.3 How reproducible: ---------------- 1. Boot PC 2. Choose "Red Hat Linux Advanced Server (2.4.9-e.3enterprise)" 3. The system hang up with the following error message: PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device fa, VID=8086, DID=2651 PCI_IDE: chipset revision 3 PCI_IDE: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later ide0: BM-DMA: at 0xffa0-0xffa7, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio ide1: BM-DMA: at 0xffa0-0xffa7, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:pio
Running 'lspci' I have 00:1f:2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation: Unknown device 2651 (rev 03)
