Description of problem: I was trying to force power-off a VM. There's the "Shutdown" button on the VM tab, but no indication of additional functionality. There's no documentation that indicates the existence of the right-click context menu where one can find power off. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 4.0.6 How reproducible: 100% Go to the VM tab. There is no "power off" button. Google for "ovirt power off" and nothing comes up to indicate the right-click context menu. Steps to Reproduce: 1. See above 2. 3. Actual results: I couldn't shutdown my VM Expected results: power off function location should be documented Additional info:
Isn't this covered in any feature page?
(In reply to Yaniv Dary from comment #1) > Isn't this covered in any feature page? None that I've found. Google certainly didn't bring up anything when I was trying to determine how to "Power Off" a VM. If it had I would not have filed this report. Moreover, it was suggested on ovirt users that I submit this report. Thanks
Hi Derek, Thank you for raising this bug. Andrew from Red Hat documentation here. I used to write some of the documentation for RHV, and while I am not as closely connected with the oVirt and RHV documentation these days, I saw this bug come up, and wanted to jump in and comment. First, are you looking for some content in the oVirt documentation itself? If so, there is a procedure that you can follow here - http://www.ovirt.org/documentation/vmm-guide/chap-Administrative_Tasks/#shutting-down-a-virtual-machine This is a procedure about shutting down virtual machines rather than using the right-click context menu itself, but it does contain a note about this functionality, and there are several other procedures that provide some details as well. Does this provide enough detail? Kind regards, Andrew

This page did not come up on google searches.. > This is a procedure about shutting down virtual machines rather than using > the right-click context menu itself, but it does contain a note about this > functionality, and there are several other procedures that provide some > details as well. > > Does this provide enough detail? Well, it DOES (obliquely) mention the right click context menu. However nowhere on the page does it mention "power off". I would recommend this page get a small update saying: If the Shutdown fails (e.g. the VM is hung and not responding to the soft shutdown request) then you can force power-off the VM by right clicking the Virtual Machine and using the Power Off method in the menu. > Kind regards, > > Andrew Thanks!
Can you open a ticket on the ovirt site to fix this? https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-site/
Done. https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-site/issues/2132
Steve, please review https://gitlab.cee.redhat.com/rhci-documentation/docs-Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/-/merge_requests/1853
Is this going to be published before 4.4.5 GA? If so, can you please target this to 4.4.4?
