Red Hat Bugzilla 1204879 0 unspecified CLOSED [REGRESSION] 3.19 update breaks Lenovo ultradock audio output 2021-02-22 00:41:40 UTC

Description Ferry Huberts 2017-06-22 08:32:08 UTC
Created attachment 1290571 [details]
alsa info

Description of problem:

Thinkpad T570 on a Lenovo Ultra Dock 90W, with the latest dock firmware 2.33.

Audio cable is plugged into 3.5mm jack on the ultra dock and into amplifier.

Kernel thinks it's a headphone but no audio is output (both are wrong)

Works on kernel 3.18.8-201.fc21.x86_64, there the kernel thinks nothing special of it (considers it the same as the built-in speakers) and audio is output (both are correct).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
4.11.5-200
4.11.4-200
4.11.3-202
alsactl version 1.1.1

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Put Thinkpad T570 on the dock
2. connect audio cable to 3.5mm jack
3. no audio
4. fiddle around with sound settings, still no audio

Actual results:
no audio output on 3.5mm jack

Expected results:
audio output on 3.5mm jack

Additional info:
Very similar to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1204879

PS. HDMI audio output does work, but I want output over the 3.5mm jack

Same issue here with Ultra Dock and T470. Tried fiddling with ALSA model options to no avail.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 14:04:43 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 3 George Sapkin 2017-11-16 21:56:47 UTC
This is still an issue with Fedora 26 and 27.

Comment 4 Laura Abbott 2018-02-20 20:05:42 UTC
We apologize for the inconvenience. There is a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. As kernel maintainers, we try to keep up with bugzilla but due the rate at which the upstream kernel project moves, bugs may be fixed without any indication to us. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 27 kernel bugs.

Fedora 27 has now been rebased to 4.15.3-300.f27. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.

Comment 5 George Sapkin 2018-02-21 08:24:48 UTC
Still an issue with kernel 4.15.4-300.fc27.x86_64. Same as with T470. Probably a duplicate of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1543326

Comment 6 Ferry Huberts 2018-03-12 11:54:10 UTC
Still an issue on 4.15.6-300.fc27.x86_64

When the t570 is on the dock, the regular headphones jack on the laptop itself works, the speakers on the laptop work, but the headphones jack on the dock does NOT work.

*********** MASS BUG UPDATE **************

We apologize for the inconvenience. There are a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 27 kernel bugs.

Fedora 27 has now been rebased to 4.17.7-100.fc27. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel.

If you have moved on to Fedora 28, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 28.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.
