RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

screencast of bug with journalctl -f

Description of problem:
With graphics card Quadro NVS 450 with SW rendering mouse stops working after hitting bottom or right screen edge. Also switching applications stops working correctly - it only switches between 2 last focused applications. Also command journalctl -f streams repeatedly those error messages:
gnome-shell[16885]: gdk_window_get_screen: assertion 'GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
gnome-shell[16885]: gdk_screen_get_root_window: assertion 'GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed
gnome-shell[16885]: gdk_device_get_state: assertion 'GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-shell-3.22.3-17.el7.x86_64
kernel-3.10.0-693.el7.x86_64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. move mouse cursor to bottom or right screen edge

Actual results:
mouse stops working (system does not react on mouse events), switching applications doesn't work correctly, errors in journalctl -f

Expected results:
mouse is working correctly, switching applications works correctly, no errors in journalctl -f

Additional info:
$ lspci -nn | grep -i vga
04:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation G98 [Quadro NVS 450] [10de:06fa] (rev a1)
$ glxinfo | grep render
...
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.9, 128 bits)

Tested in gnome classic. When I open activities overview via super key and click with left mouse button, it closes activities overview and opens applications menu in left bottom corner of the screen. Second click closes the menu. Otherwise mouse is not working.

Tested in the third user profile, where using SW rendering is a bug according to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1262873
