Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description John Mitsch 2017-07-31 21:02:01 UTC
Katello change hostname currently regenerates the CA which requires clients and proxies to re-register. We shouldn't have to do this anymore after some installer changes and can keep the CA

Comment 1 John Mitsch 2017-07-31 21:02:05 UTC
Created from redmine issue http://projects.theforeman.org/issues/20440

Comment 2 John Mitsch 2017-07-31 21:02:08 UTC
Upstream bug assigned to jomitsch

Comment 4 Satellite Program 2017-08-09 20:11:07 UTC
Moving this bug to POST for triage into Satellite 6 since the upstream issue http://projects.theforeman.org/issues/20440 has been resolved.

Comment 5 Peter Ondrejka 2017-11-13 16:48:32 UTC
Tested on Sat 6.3 snap 24, the tool works ok after changes.

But there is no point in removing the necessity to re-register hosts if we still ask users to do it in the success message. So putting back to assigned to make changes in the user message.

Comment 6 John Mitsch 2017-11-13 17:01:37 UTC
Peter,

Did you try to use a host after katello-change-hostname that hadn't been re-registered? I believe this step is still necessary despite not changing the CA.

-John

Comment 7 Peter Ondrejka 2017-11-14 14:57:29 UTC
Ok my bad :) Yes, I tried and worked for me but that was because I had external DNS redirecting calls to old hostname to the renamed machine. On the second try I confirm re-register is necessary, so verified it is
