Description Steve Bryant 2017-08-23 10:16:33 UTC
Description of problem:

firefox-55.0.2-1.fc26.x86_64 requires nspr at version 4.16.0, but this does not exist in the Fedora 'updates' or 'updates-testing' repos.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

firefox-55.0.2-1.fc26.x86_64

How reproducible:

# dnf --enablerepo updates-testing upgrade firefox
Last metadata expiration check: 0:15:06 ago on Wed 23 Aug 2017 10:45:48 BST.
Dependencies resolved.

 Problem: cannot install the best update candidate for package firefox-55.0.1-1.fc26.x86_64
  - nothing provides nspr >= 4.16.0 needed by firefox-55.0.2-1.fc26.x86_64

Comment 8 Daniel 2017-08-24 11:20:01 UTC
After installation of package firefox-55.0.2-2.fc26, I got the following error while doing dnf update:
package firefox-55.0.2-2.fc26.x86_64 conflicts with pkgconfig(nspr) >= 4.16 provided by nspr-devel-4.16.0-1.fc26.x86_64

Yes, that's a workaround for bodhi to does not pull nspr-devel-4.16.0 to build Firefox, we don't have a direct control which packages are pulled to build root for particular build.

A Firefox package without this workaround is here (firefox-55.0.2-3):

Hello.

It may be just my opinion, but it looks to me like that FF 55.0.2-2 makes things much worse than better. My system is up-to-date Fedora 26 ans please see what happens:

[root@localhost ~]# dnf distro-sync
Last metadata expiration check: 0:02:26 ago on Fri 25 Aug 2017 19:23:51 CEST.

[root@localhost ~]# rpm -q firefox nspr

[root@localhost ~]# dnf install nspr-devel

Is this ok [y/N]: n
Operation aborted.
[root@localhost ~]#

At this point, if someone answers "y" instead of "n", then good luck and God bless him, FF55 profile is declared as not being backward compatible, see release notes and various articles on internet.

Please fix this problem as this conflict causing downgrade of FF looka to me to be much more serious than the original problem, e.g. Cannot upgrade to firefox-55.0.2-1.

The nspr-devel package is used only to Firefox package and the dependency here was added to make sure we don't build against unreleased nspr package. Unfortunately the nspr was released before I expected which creates such conflict. You can safely install the Firefox and nspr-devel-4.16 - there's no real conflict here.

Anyway, updated Firefox package which does not conflict with nspr-devel-4.16 is available here: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2017-6204e0b583

Comment 12 Martin Stransky 2017-08-25 20:18:19 UTC
Err, "is used only to Firefox" -> "is used only to build Firefox"

Comment 13 Eduard Vopicka 2017-08-26 00:07:01 UTC
Thanks for the link above. With firefox-55.0.2-3 installed there was no problem to reinstall everything thas has been necessary to remove to allow installation of firefox-55.0.2-2 without using brutal force and breaking od dependencies.

dnf install  nspr-devel evolution-data-server-devel libgdata-devel liboauth-devel nss-devel nss-pkcs11-devel nss-softokn-devel nss-util-devel webkitgtk4-devel webkitgtk4-jsc-devel

So firefox-55.0.2-3 should be probably pushed out to the world?
