RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Wei Huang (AMD) 2017-10-04 21:32:24 UTC
We need a new machine type for RHEL 7.5 release. The purpose is to have to qemu-kvm-rhev to formally support the following two machine types:

virt RHEL 7.5.0 ARM Virtual Machine (alias of virt-rhel7.5.0)
virt-rhel7.5.0 RHEL 7.5.0 ARM Virtual Machine (default)
virt-rhel7.4.0 RHEL 7.4.0 ARM Virtual Machine
none empty machine

Since neither 7.4 nor 7.5 machine types are supported by Red Hat (just devel preview), why keep the 7.4 machine type? It's just more to worry about and test. Thanks.

Hmm, this is a good question. We decided to drop the 7.3 machine type when we added 7.4. I don't have any problem to drop the 7.4 machine type in 7.5, if virt-arm team doesn't have the obligation to support 7.4-backward-compatibility (both internally and externally) in newer releases.

What was our past experience (x86 or ppc) with devel preview? Was it a rolling-based approach as well?

Comment 4 Wei Huang (AMD) 2017-10-06 14:58:04 UTC
FYI: both Karen and Hai agreed that we should drop 7.4 machine type in 7.5 release. I will bring this up in next virt-arm meeting and send in another patch after the team reaches the agreement.

Fix included in qemu-kvm-ma-2.10.0-3.el7

Comment 8 Wei Huang (AMD) 2017-12-18 05:43:19 UTC
Yes, it has been fixed. In my aarch64 box, here is the output:

# /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm -M ?
Supported machines are:
virt RHEL 7.5.0 ARM Virtual Machine (alias of virt-rhel7.5.0)
virt-rhel7.5.0 RHEL 7.5.0 ARM Virtual Machine (default)
none empty machine

Thanks!
