+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1274451 +++ ...snip comments unrelated to tuna --- Additional comment from q2dg on 2017-09-04 07:15:20 EDT --- I can't run Tuna grafically (https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_MRG/2/html/Tuna_User_Guide/chap-Tuna_User_Guide-Using_the_Graphical_User_Interface.html) on Fedora 26 because of this. Should I wait packagers to include a polkit file inside the package? It's a shame.
Reproduced with tuna-0.12-4.fc25.noarch Tuna does use polikit since https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=919212 but still fails to access the display: $ tuna No protocol specified /usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py:57: GtkWarning: could not open display warnings.warn(str(e), _gtk.Warning) /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: Warning: invalid (NULL) pointer instance self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: Warning: g_signal_connect_data: assertion 'G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: GtkWarning: IA__gtk_settings_get_for_screen: assertion 'GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: Warning: g_object_get: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: GtkWarning: IA__gdk_pango_context_get_for_screen: assertion 'GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: PangoWarning: pango_context_set_font_description: assertion 'context != NULL' failed self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: PangoWarning: pango_context_set_base_dir: assertion 'context != NULL' failed self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: PangoWarning: pango_context_set_language: assertion 'context != NULL' failed self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: Warning: g_object_unref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: GtkWarning: IA__gdk_screen_get_display: assertion 'GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tuna/tuna_gui.py:35: GtkWarning: IA__gdk_keymap_get_for_display: assertion 'GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed self.wtree = gtk.glade.XML(tuna_glade, "mainbig_window", "tuna") Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Please don't clone bugs. Most people in CC of this bug are not interested in the tuna application and its bug. Instead, next time it would be nicer to have a new bug and make it block bug #1500124.
(In reply to Alan Pevec from comment #0) > [...] Should I wait packagers to include a polkit file inside the package? > It's a shame. You can use one of the existing workarounds in the meantime, like allowing local root user to connect to the existing Xwayland display with: $ xhost +si:localuser:root
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 28 development cycle. Changing version to '28'.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 28 is nearing its end of life. On 2019-May-28 Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 28. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '28'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 28 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 28 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-05-28. Fedora 28 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
