RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.
There a compatibility problem between Oracle ACFS and RHEL 7.4 kernel
Oracle in their knowledge base (Doc ID 2303388.1) refers to the Red Hat bug
1477073 - "7.4 kmod weak-modules --dry-run changed output format missing 'is compatible' messages"
Is it possible to get access to the bug 1477073?
If not, is there a plan to fix it? Can we get more detailed description of the bug?
Thank you!
Artem,
Thank you for opening this bug. I'm afraid we can't open bz1477073 to public at this point. However the fix has already been released for rhel-7.4 as of Oct 19th, please review following advisory:
https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2017:2929
Please review the Description section with details about the actual problem. It would be nice if you could ask Oracle if they could mention this Errata in their docs. Please let us know if there's anything else we can do for you. Thank you!
Artem,
My previous comment was not complete, my apologizes. The advisory RHBA-2017:2929 released on Oct 19th fixes the Oracle ACFS installation only for the 'root' user. The fix for non root user is currently scheduled for release under rhel-7.4 soon. We can provide you the fixed package ahead of time for testing if you prefer. Please let us know. Thank you!
The issue is caused by the /sbin/weak-modules script which, when executed with the --dry-run option, does not echo expected messages listing which modules are compatible. The script itself is otherwise used to link the installed kernel modules to the respective compatible installed kernels. The Errata released on Oct 19th fixes the --dry-run option when the script is run under the root user.
We know that the Oracle ACFS installer does call the weak-modules --dry-run option before it actually proceeds with the installation. Unfortunately we don't know exactly when does the Oracle ACFS installer calls the weak-modules --dry-run script under the 'root' user (please note that the installer has to use the root user in order to install the kernel modules) and when it executes the --dry-run option under the non-root user.
Artem,
Please note that the full fix for the non-root user for rhel-7.4 has just been released under RHBA-2017:3326:
https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2017:3326
Please let us know if you have any further issues. Thank you!
