We apologize for the inconvenience. There is a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. As kernel maintainers, we try to keep up with bugzilla but due the rate at which the upstream kernel project moves, bugs may be fixed without any indication to us. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 27 kernel bugs. Fedora 27 has now been rebased to 4.15.3-300.f27. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel. If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.
I am running 4.15.3-300.fc27.x86_64 on my desktop. These messages still appear. They have for years. The computer is an HP ENVY 700-019 Desktop PC and the last firmware release was in 2014. I have no idea if this is a firmware bug, or a kernel bug. I don't know of any consequence.
I have the same problem. I've recently hit this seem issue, this is caused by the hp-wmi driver passing a buffer which is not big enough when making WMI related ACPI calls. I've submitted a patch-series which fixes this upstream: https://lore.kernel.org/patchwork/project/lkml/list/?series=419906
Fedora 29 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-11-26. Fedora 29 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

Will it be possible to get them on the next kernel update given the circumstance?
(In reply to Luya Tshimbalanga from comment #33) > Thank you for the fix. Will it be possible to get them on the next kernel > update given the circumstance? These warnings look scary, but they are mostly harmless. One negative side-effect of them is that the hp-wmi driver fails to load. Having it loaded might give os some extra hotkeys (if there are any which are currently not working) other then that it will not gain us much. OTOH loading the driver where it did not load before may itself have negative side effects, so I would rather have these patches mature a bit upstream first. At a minimum they should hit -next before we add them to the Fedora kernels.

Speaking about the keyboard, I noticed the shortcuts for multimedia on GNOME Shell were left unassigned even though they work as intended. Hopefully the fix addresses one of these side effects. Would you mind closing upstream bug report? Thanks.
Does this also affect the hinge switch on convertible models? Folding the lid back past a certain angle triggers a switch that Windows uses to put the device into a (fairly awful) tablet mode - it'd be useful to use this switch to disable the keyboard / touchpad when the laptop is being used as a tablet.

The HP WMI interface does have some bits to report tablet mode. So I guess this might effect reporting of SW_TABLET_MODE events on some convertibles. Note that userspace currently does not do much with these events, but getting them reported is a first step.
The patches for this have been added to the 5.3.z and 5.4.z stable kernel tree, so the next time the Fedora kernel pick up a new stable release the fixes for this will be included.
The fix just landed on kernel-5.3.15-300 as per announcement: https://lwn.net/Articles/806395/
Created attachment 1642586 [details] dmesg from amd raven ridge Ryzen 2500u Result dmesg showing the error message not longer show. Only minor details on this line: hp_wmi: query 0xd returned error 0x5 Not sure what it is exactly
(In reply to Luya Tshimbalanga from comment #40) > Result dmesg showing the error message not longer show. Only minor details > on this line: > hp_wmi: query 0xd returned error 0x5 Hmm, that means that the HPWMI_FEATURE2_QUERY fails with a HPWMI_RET_INVALID_PARAMETERS error. I wonder why though. Can you create an acpidump of your machine: acpidump -o acpidump And then attach the generated "acpidump: file here please?
Created attachment 1642671 [details] acpidump from HP Envy x360 15-cp0xxx Certainly. Here is the generated acpidump

Some convertibles like HP Envy x360 Ryzen 15-cp0xxx miss the gyroscope iio driver to run such function. AMD FCH team are working on cleaning up the code based on reviews.
(In reply to Luya Tshimbalanga from comment #42) > Created attachment 1642671 [details] > acpidump from HP Envy x360 15-cp0xxx > > Certainly. Here is the generated acpidump Thank you. It looks like the buffer passed in for the HPWMI_FEATURE2_QUERY call is too small. I've written a kernel patch fixing this. I've started a kernel scratch-build fixing this: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=39690950 Note this is still building atm, it should be done in a couple of hours. See here for generic instructions for installing a kernel directly from koji: https://fedorapeople.org/~jwrdegoede/kernel-test-instructions.txt Note if you not have time to test right away, please at least download the files indicated in the instructions, test builds get removed after a couple of days to cleanup disk-space. Please let me know if this fixes the error. Other then silencing the error I do not expect any functional change from this change.
Thank you friends Fixed a longtime bug, ACPI Errors bugs fixed [serdar@archlinux Desktop]$ uname -a Linux archlinux 5.4.3-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri, 13 Dec 2019 09:39:02 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux [serdar@archlinux Desktop]$ dmesg | grep Error [ 1.790415] RAS: Correctable Errors collector initialized.

Following the instruction and running the test kernel with disabled secure boot, the attached dmesg log reports the error no longer occurs even after three reboots. The issue seems resolved.
Thank you both for testing. I've submitted the fix upstream with a Cc: stable, so it should show up in the Fedora kernels in a couple of weeks.
The fix landed on kernel-5.4.7. I guess this report can be closed. Thanks Hans and friends.

Add a mee too. I'm using Fedora 32 Server on HP ProLiant DL360 G5. The machine is fully patched. Fedora 32 Server was released April 28, 2020. It provides 5.6.7-300.fc32.x86_64, but the issue is still present. The kernel folks say they fixed the issue at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201981.

You can run acpidump as root, that's how I did it ovo game
As root, I launched acpidump. You could try https://eggy-car.com
