Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '25'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. --- Additional comment from Fedora End Of Life on 2017-12-12 05:12:53 EST --- Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. --- Additional comment from marek77 on 2018-01-06 12:26:57 EST --- I have the same issue on Fedora 26 (32bit), HP Compaq 6710b, latest PAE kernel (4.14.11-200.fc26.i686+PAE): [ 2.252612] Freeing unused kernel memory: 948K [ 2.252728] Write protecting the kernel text: 7992k [ 2.252788] Write protecting the kernel read-only data: 3208k [ 2.252789] NX-protecting the kernel data: 6344k [ 2.252938] x86/mm: Found insecure W+X mapping at address c00a0000/0xc00a0000 [ 2.252943] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [ 2.252948] WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 1 at arch/x86/mm/dump_pagetables.c:266 note_page+0x670/0x860 [ 2.252949] Modules linked in: [ 2.252953] CPU: 1 PID: 1 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 4.14.11-200.fc26.i686+PAE #1 [ 2.253010] Hardware name: Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq 6710b (GR680ET#ABF)/30C0, BIOS 68DDU Ver. Hi marek77, I apologize that we have let this issue that you are seeing go unresolved for so long. Would you please give me a little background on your situation? It looks like this is happening on a HP/Compaq 6710b? Am I correct in believing that this machine has a 64-bit processor? Do you have a version of the kernel that is working for you? Thanks! jeff
Hi Jeff, you're right, this is a machine with 64bit processor. When I got it, it had 32bit Fedora installed, and I kept it that way and didn't use it much (I keep it as a backup in case my desktop packs up..). Since I last posted to this bug I reinstalled it with 64bit Fedora, and so I cannot reproduce this issue anymore. cheers Marek
