Additional info: I first filed this under a hal bug (#150985), According to davidz it's a gnome-volume-manager bug. After plugging the camera, g-v-m consumes all available cpu power until killed. I don't think it does anything useful with it though :-/
Oh, forgot to mention: It has worked before. Not quite sure when it stopped working though. Some time during march I think...
