Description John Wilkins 2018-02-01 15:55:42 UTC
Description of problem:

The `useradd` command creates a user, but it does not create a home directory, which is needed to store the ssh key and known hosts files. Additionally, `useradd` does not create a bash entry, so the username and present working directory don't show up in the CLI, which isn't all that friendly.

To add a user, use the `adduser` command.

There is a behavioral difference between RHEL and Ubuntu.

On RHEL, `adduser` creates the user and creates the home directory, but it doesn't prompt for user info or password, so you will still need to execute the `passwd` command.

On Ubuntu `adduser` creates the user and home directory, and it prompts for user information including a password so there is no need to use the `passwd` command.
