If these tests fails in rawhide only it's more likely a problem with GCC 8 than MySQL?

Yes, it is probabble cause.

However I don't have enough time to investigate it right now and it doesn't seem as a severe issue, so I rather created tracking bugzilla and deliver the new version to the users faster.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 29 development cycle.
Changing version to '29'.
