GNOME Bugzilla 773126 0 Normal NEW cannnot set phase2 peap auth to none 2020-02-03 16:07:28 UTC

Description Jan Vlug 2018-02-20 10:32:46 UTC
NetworkManager cannot (automatically) connect to wireless network with no phase 2 authentication.

I tried to connect to a wireless network with Fedora NetworkManager, but NetworkManager could not automatically establish a connection.

Next I tried to connect to the same network with my Android phone. The phone connected automatically and asked only for username and password. I did not have to do any advanced settings.

In the Android phone, the configuration for the network is:
802.1x EAP
identity: xxx.yyy
password: BLABLA
advanced options:
PEAP
none phase 2 authentication

I tried to mimic this configuration via the Gnome network settings GUI, but I could not set 'inner authentication' (which I assume is similar to 'phase 2 authentication' in Android) to 'none'.

Ideally, NetworkManager should be able to connect by only asking for the username password (like Android). Not being able to set the 'inner authentication' to 'none' might be the reason why I cannot connect at all to the wireless network.

Please provide the possibility to set the 'inner authentication' to 'none'.

Today I tried again to connect to the network, and now Fedora did connect.
I used the following settings (as stated in Gnome Wi-Fi Settings):

Security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
Anonymous identity: <blank>
No CA certificate is required: checked
PEAP version: automatic
Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2
Username: xxx.yyy
Password: BLABLA

This looks quite different from the Android settings, but anyway, both devices can connect now.

So, I'm closing this bug report.
