hal is comprised of serveral processes, please post the output of top on both
the 100% and %10 cpu usage scenario. Also, Do you have a USB-based UPS attached?
If so, does the problem go away if you unplug the UPS from the USB port?
Finally, what kind of box does this happen on?

problem with apcupsd-3.10.16-pre1

stopping the service, hald working correctly.

Comment 3 David Zeuthen 2005-04-18 18:20:05 UTC
Thanks for the info, I will investigate this by looking at the interaction of
accupsd and hald - they should, in theory at least, be able to coexist. Another
thing is that dbus/hald is leaking when polling the UPS but that is less severe..

Comment 4 David Zeuthen 2005-04-28 15:05:41 UTC
I think this might be fixed with hal-0.5.1-1 - please give it a whirl. Thanks.

What is the CPU usage of acpupsd if hal is not running? (service haldaemon stop)

Comment 7 David Zeuthen 2005-04-28 23:23:03 UTC
Also, what are the specs of your system? (CPU, MHz, RAM etc.)

Comment 9 James M 2005-07-07 18:57:09 UTC
I am able to reproduce this as well, with an APC UPS running over USB; details
are the same (hald xor apcupsd are fine, but running both => cpu spin). This is
with hal-0.5.2-2 and apcupsd 3.10.17a (without snmp enabled, but with usb and
most other options).

Comment 10 Christof Damian 2005-07-12 17:15:46 UTC
I also have this problem with FC4, apcupsd-std-3.10.16-1 & hal-0.5.2-2

Comment 11 Christof Damian 2005-08-17 06:13:39 UTC
It seems that upgrading to apcupsd-usb-3.10.18-1 fixed the problem for me.

Comment 12 David Zeuthen 2005-08-17 16:22:07 UTC
Thanks for the testing...

Comment 13 James M 2005-08-18 14:52:31 UTC
Fixed for me in apcupsd 3.10.18 also.
