The closure of the sendmail daemon means that fetchmail no longer works,
which meant I couldn't get my email after installing pinstripe... which
incidentally also meant I couldn't create a bugzilla account to report the
bug!

The real problem is that there is a lack of documentation telling me (a)
what has happened, and (b) how to move back to the less secure but more
functional setup I had with RH6.2 - a simple HOWTO / README would of been
nice?

Alternatively, I am told (by the people on the pinstripe list who helped me
fix my problem) that it is better to run fetchmail with procmail - so
perhaps fetchmailconf could be tweaked to implement this as standard
instead of it trying to use the closed sendmail?

sendmail is probably changed to again listen for email on the smtp port, as too
many packages
still depend on this.
