Description Mike Hackett 2018-04-19 18:36:12 UTC
Description of problem:
Managing a Ceph cluster from a user standpoint can be a daunting task. Red Hat should have a centralized document that clearly identifies a common issue/failure and assists the user with steps to resolve the issue/failure.

The Administration Guide covers some of these details but could be clearer and more concise:

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_ceph_storage/3/html/administration_guide/

The Ceph Run Book (Consulting Document) can be used as an example framework to create a newe doc or update the existing Administration guide:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rjxvEJLQ5Vnw2NbAsVAhCiJS_uPgKTdQ0JvAPJMT4TQ/edit

I can review the Administration Guide thoroughly to validate what should be updated or modified to be more clear to the user.

Hi Aron,

Here are the things need to be changed in the operations Guide.

1)raw_journal_devices parameter has been deprecated after 3.0 (update it with "dedicated_devices" according to rhceph3.0 docs)
>Section 1.4.2 (replace "raw_journal_devices with "dedicated_devices") at four places.

2)Section 1.4.3. ->Under IMPORTANT
"For more information on using the ceph-volume command, see the Red Hat Ceph Storage <link>Block Device Guide</link> "

Pointing to Block Device Guide but should be pointed to Admin guide

"For more information on using the ceph-volume command, see the Red Hat Ceph Storage <link>Administration Guide</link> "

as per this bz https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1589154

3)Section 3.2.4. Step 4
> <move a bucket> hyperlink not exactly taking to that section in storage strategies guide

4)Section 1.6 Under
Additonal Resources
<link> Erasure Code Pools</link> not working
Section 1.7
 <link>Placement Groups (PGs)</link> not working

5)Section 3.2.3.
Step 6 need to be deleted ( as calamari is not supported in rhceph3)

pls let me knw if you any concerns
thanks
